Parents need to have information about how they share responsibility for decision-making for the child. Regulations are a good place to give more information on how parents will make decisions and share this commitment. A specific provision could stipulate that each parent must contribute to the decision concerning the child`s upbringing, medical care, religious education, etc. There could also be a provision setting out the penalty if one of the parents makes a decision without consulting the other parent. Sole or primary custody means that one of the parents has all or the majority of the time. While it`s helpful to consult with an experienced family advocate, parenting plans don`t need to include legal terms, and you can write it yourself. In many states, courts prefer that parents provide a parenting plan because they best understand the needs of their children.
